Baylar Smith leads R-2 cross country runners at Steelville

Belle was limited in cross country entries Thursday afternoon in Steelville due to Belle facing Vienna on the softball field.

Showing the way for Maries County was Belle freshman Baylar Smith winning the junior varsity boys race at Steelville in a winning time of 19:29.1.

Starting the day of racing in Steelville was the middle school boys.

Bland seventh-grader Landon Finn was the lead Bear with a 29th-place time of 11:35.5 followed closely by fellow seventh-grader Hank Stratman with a 32nd-place time of 11:43.5.

Kaegan Kinsey followed with a 41st-place time of 13:05.1 for Bland.

Bland’s Lady Bears were led by Tajel McDaniel and her 10th-place time of 11:29.4. Cylee Reed also finished 24th for Bland in a time of 12:37.0.

Ava Feeler just missed the top 30 with a 31st-place time of 13:36.0 followed by Piper Marsee’s 35th-place time of 13:52.2.

Saturday at South Callaway, Vienna harriers were led by eighth-grader Aubrey Reeves placing second in 10:57.09 in the middle school girls race.

Lawson Magner took fifth in the middle school boys race for Vienna in 9:53.05.

Caleb Horman (8th, 19:48.11) and Daniel Casey (8th, 27:19.61) placed the same in the varsity and JV races respectively.
