BCBA hosts 3rd Annual Swap Meet

The Belle Community Betterment Association (BCBA) hosted their 3rd Annual Swap Meet on Saturday with roughly 1,200 adults, 103 vendors and an unknown number of children in attendance.

The group will release the profits for the fundraiser at a later date.

BCBA member Barb Schaller said they still followed the health department guidelines around the COVID-19 pandemic.

“For those with concerns we handed out masks at the administration gate,” Schaller said. “It was a wonderful day at the park and BCBA is so grateful for the support from the community and surrounding communities.”

BCBA member Sundi Jo Graham said the group did well.

“More than last year,” Graham said about the vendors. “We sold more food before 11 a.m. then all day last year.”

The group had to make a food run around 11 a.m. to pick up more hamburgers and hotdogs.

“We had no idea what to expect, so it was a good problem to have,” Graham said.BCBA Treasurer Vickie Nelson added that amazing results of the event were more surprising given that they have only been able to plan since April.

“With COVID we had put it on hold,” Nelson explained. “But at the April meeting, we voted to go ahead and do it, not having any idea if we could pull it off or not in the same capacity as last year. It’s gaining a good reputation which will sell itself.”

Graham added to the successfulness of the day.

“It was just awesome. It was a great turnout and the day couldn’t have been more perfect,” she said. “We have a great group of volunteers — I couldn’t have been more happy with the turnout. Saturday proved people are ready to get back to normal.”

Schaller said the funds are mainly to purchase a second “Welcome to Belle” sign. The group raised enough money to purchase the first sign last year, but wanted both signs to go up about the same time.

“This is one of our biggest fundraisers,” Schaller said about the event. “We were hesitant about having the event, but are grateful for the support from our community and vendors.”
