Belle, Vienna track squads compete in Osage/Maries Challenge at Linn

Converging on Linn High School Monday afternoon, track teams from Belle, Vienna, Chamois and Linn competed in the Osage/Maries Challenge track meet.

A total of 16 events between Bland and Vienna track athlete were won in the middle school division while 11 events were won between Belle and Vienna high school track athletes.

In combined middle school team standings, Maries County (Bland and Vienna) scored 125 points ahead of Osage County’s (Linn and Chamois) 97 points on the boy’s side. Osage County (108.5) edged Maries County (104.5) in the middle girl’s team race.

Individual event winners from Vienna Middle School included Dusty Reynaud (boy’s 100m dash), Nora Garro (girl’s 100m dash), Tori Schulte (girl’s 200m and 400m dash), Sam Rowden (boy’s long jump), Terra Huffman (girl’s shot put and discus), Andrea Novak (girl’s long jump) and Kiera Hollis (girl’s triple jump).

VMS’ girl’s 4x100-meter relay team of Kayla Hertzing, Jillian Fick, Olivia Hagan and Novak won the race in a time of 1:02.75.

Bland Middle School individual event winners included Skye Wise (boy’s 400m dash and triple jump), Trenton Burnett (boy’s 800m and 1600m run) and Brett Gromowski (boy’s discus).

BMS’ boy’s 4x400m relay team of Baylar Smith, Burnett, Wise and Gromowski won their meet-ending race in 4:30.26.

On the high school side of the ledger, Osage County topped the boy’s team standings with 170 points versus Maries County’s 114 points. In the girl’s team picture, Osage County topped Maries County 177 to 82.

Vienna won seven individual events in the high school portion of the meet while Belle captured four individual events.

Breaking up a possible Osage County sweep on the track, Vienna sophomore distance runner Caleb Horman won both the 1600m and 3200m races.

Helping Maries County to a clean sweep of the girl’s field events for Vienna were Kadence George with a winning throw of 117 feet, one inch in the javelin and Annalise Jordan clearing 7-0 in the pole vault.

Belle won the other four field events on the girl’s side with Susie Moman winning the shot put and discus with throws of 31-07.5 and 89-00 respectively.

Gracie Schultz jumped her way to a pair of wins claiming the long and triple jump with distances of 14-09 and 32-01.

A Vienna duo also prevented a clean sweep of Linn in the field events on the boy’s side.

Throwing his way to gold in two events, Gavin Weathers won both the shot put and discus with commanding throws of 44-04 and 153-11 respectively.

Eagle sophomore Layne Hogshooter won the long jump by over a foot with a winning distance of 17-01.5.

Bland and Vienna will both return to action tomorrow (Thursday) back in Linn at the Linn Junior High Invitational beginning at 3:30 p.m.

VHS’ next meet will be in the Osage Warpath Relays on Thursday, April 25 while Belle’s next action will also be that Thursday at the St. James Invitational at 2:30 p.m.
