BHS hosts inaugural red and white night

Posted

Friday night at Belle High School, Lady Tiger and Tiger basketball fans got a preview of their upcoming seasons during the first annual Red and White Night put on by the Belle-Bland Booster Club.

Kicking off the evening of basketball was a scrimmage between the Bland Lady Bear 7th grade Basketball Team and their 8th grade counterparts.

Following that scrimmage, the Bland Bears basketball cheerleaders were introduced to the many fans in attendance at BHS.

Up next in the scrimmage department, the Belle Tiger freshmen team went up against Evin Farris’ Belle Lady Tiger basketball squad.

Once that scrimmage concluded, the Missouri National Guard presented a gift in the form of a banner for the Belle High School Student Section.

Once that presentation concluded, Belle’s junior varsity Tigers scrimmaged their varsity counterparts for two quarters to conclude the night of basketball.

Farris’ Lady Tigers will open their season during the first full week of December competing in the annual Eugene Girls Basketball Tournament. A complete bracket of that tournament will appear in next week’s Advocate.

Their original season opener was scheduled for Monday, Nov. 25 at Richland but had to be rescheduled due to some of Belle’s players not having enough practices under their belts to be eligible by standards set from the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA).

Belle’s Lady Tigers will open the home portion of the 2019-20 season on Monday, Dec. 9 when they will host Newburg’s Lady Wolves out of Phelps County with a 6 p.m. tip off.

Tim Evans’ Belle Tiger basketball squad will open their season two days before Thanksgiving on Tuesday, Nov. 26 traveling into northern Franklin County to take on New Haven’s Shamrocks with a scheduled 6 p.m., tip time for junior varsity boys action.

One day after their Lady Tiger counterparts play their home opener, Evans’ Tigers will open the home portion of their season on Tuesday, Dec. 10 also hosting Newburg’s Wolves.

With enough players for a freshman team, that squad of Tigers will open their season on the road on Monday, Dec. 2 in St. James against the Tigers with a 6 p.m., tip off.

Their home opener will also be on Tuesday, Dec. 10 when the Owensville Dutchmen make the short trip west on Highway 28 into Maries County.

That contest will start at 5 p.m., and precede the scheduled junior varsity and varsity doubleheader between Belle and Newburg.

Vienna Eagle basketball will open their season at home on Friday night hosting Fatima’s Comets with a scheduled 6 p.m., start time for the JV game.

Jason Kampeter’s Vienna Lady Eagles will begin their season the Tuesday before Thanksgiving on Nov. 26 traveling into Osage County to take on Chamois starting at 5 p.m.
