Bland and Vienna battle for county middle school hoops bragging rights

Friday night at Bland Middle School, Bland and Vienna battled for Maries County middle school basketball bragging rights in a quadrupleheader that started with the 7th grade games.

Racing out to a 16-2 lead after one quarter, Bland defeated Vienna in the 7th grade game, 33-17.

Neveah Kinsey paced Bland with 11 points followed closely by Natalie Gehlert and Miranda Sanders with eight points each.

Jaelee Stricklan led Vienna with seven points followed closely by Salene George adding six points.

Leading 11-6 at halftime, Bland’s seventh-grade boys doubled up Vienna 12-6 in the third quarter before going on to a 26-14 win over the Eagles.

Lukas Smith led the Bears with nine points followed by six from Jon Valley.

Chance Roberson and Waylon Lenning each had four points to lead Vienna.

8th grade action began with the Lady Bears and Eagles facing off.

Nearly seeing a 13-5 halftime lead disappear, Bland withstood a Vienna second-half rally edging the Eagles 29-25.

Anastyn Lansford led the Lady Bears with 11 points while the Lady Eagles were paced by Karliegh Brisco’s 10 points.

In the final game of the night, Vienna’s 8th grade Eagles survived a 10-5 fourth-quarter run by Bland to hold on for a 29-26 victory denying the Bears a sweep of the four games.

Duncan Wilkinson led Vienna with 11 points while Bland got eight points each from Myles Butler and Carter Kinkead.
