Bland’s 8th grade Lady Bears see season end at Owensville Tournament

While their 7th grade counterparts were competing in Bourbon nearly two weeks ago, Brian Kaestner’s Bland 8th grade volleyball team spent the day of Saturday, March 14 at Owensville High School and the annual Owensville 8th Grade Girls Volleyball Tournament.

Unable to claim a set during pool play, Bland ended the tournament along with their season finishing fifth in pool ‘A’ at Owensville.

Two nights earlier in their final home match against Bourbon, Bland’s 8th grade Lady Bears did not have a full team as some of them were performing as part of the middle school band at their annual band concert the same night at Belle High School.

Trailing throughout most of the match, Bland dropped their final home match of the season against Bourbon in two sets 25-7 and 25-18.

Tegan Trainer, Jules Devine and Elissa Shanks each had service points against the Lady Warhawks.

During pool play at Owensville, Bland’s best shot at taking a set came in their first match against the host Dutchgirls.

Taking advantage of numerous OMS service errors, Bland trailed 20-15 in game one before scoring five of the next six points trimming the deficit to one at 21-20.

Unable to get any closer, the Lady Bears fell to Owensville in both sets 25-20 and 25-11.

Bland also suffered two-set losses at Owensville to Washington, Sullivan and St. James.

Along with their seventh-grade counterparts, Bland’s eighth graders were supposed to end their season tomorrow (Thursday) night on the road in Eugene.

That match was cancelled due to the coronavirus.
