Bobby Jean Heyer, 85, Owensville, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 23, 2020, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 10, 1934, to the late Henry and Grace (Hemme) Heyer, in Byron.

He was united in marriage to Mary Virginia Jett, Dec.16, 1961, at the home of Pastor Roy Jett in Bland. She preceded him in death Jan. 24, 2020.

Bobby attended school until eighth grade but at the age of 42, earned his GED. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a hard worker starting at age of 14 and worked until he retired at the age of 80. He was a very caring man that would always be willing to offer a helping hand. He enjoyed woodworking, building furniture for his family.

Bobby was a charter member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bland, where he served as a deacon for 44 years and a Sunday school teacher for at least 30 years.

In addition to his parents and wife of 58 years, he was preceded in death by brothers, Buel and Herbert Heyer; and sister, Irene Ridenhour.

He is survived by daughter, Patty King and husband Larry of Owensville; grandchildren, Dejun King and wife Taylor of Owensville and Alyssa Hodges and husband Will of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Apollo King and March Hodges; and many extended family members and friends.

Funeral services were Tuesday, May 26, at Mt. Zion Church near Bland with family and Terry Hogan officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
