Cecile L. “Ceil” Shelton, 80, Highland, Ill., passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2020, at her sister’s residence in Glen Carbon, Ill.
She was born May 23, 1939, to Herman J. and Hazel R. (Lester) Butts, in Granite City, Ill.
She was united in marriage to Carl Gene Shelton, Nov. 15, 1958, at East St. Louis, Ill.
Ceil was of Baptist Faith. She was a waitress at Schwartz Drug Store and in 1972 worked at 76 Truck Plaza as a waitress, until her retirement. In 1988 she and her husband moved to Meta to live their retirement years in the log cabin they built. After her husbands death, she returned to live near her son and sister.
She was preceded in death by parents, Herman and Hazel; husband, Carl; son, James David Shelton; daughter, Joni L. Shelton; and brother, Lawrence H. Ironsun.
She is survived by son, Michael C. Shelton and wife Linda of Highland, Ill.; daughter, Karen R. Carskadon of Manitou Springs, Colo.; sister, JoAnn Delaney of Glen Carbon, Ill.; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 27, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland Ill., with funeral services following with Pastor Penny Barber officiating. Memorial contributions suggested to Partners for Pets or Highland Animal Shelter.
