A Circuit Court Judge of the 25th Judicial Circuit has denied a temporary restraining order against the Maries County Commission.
Judge John Beger denied Ronald and Anne Calzone’s request to issue a restraining order against the county commission. The commissioners made an order closing the courthouse in late March due to the coronavirus, following the governor’s order to avoid mass gatherings. The Dixon couple sued the county commission for alleged violations of the Missouri Sunshine Law.
A hearing on a preliminary injunction in circuit court with Judge Beger presiding is scheduled for May 7 at 10 a.m. It will not be heard in person but by counsel and parties attending via Webex.
Maries County Prosecuting Attorney Anthony “Tony” Skouby, who at this time is representing the county commission in this lawsuit said, “The members of the Maries County Commission are committed to finding the balance between transparency and a state of emergency of an unprecedented nature.”
