County middle school basketball teams bring home hardware from annual Bland 8th Grade Tournament

To say it was a productive week for Maries County’s middle school basketball teams would be an accurate statement.

During the annual Bland 8th Grade Boys Basketball Tournament last week, both the Bland seventh and eighth-grade Bears along with Vienna’s Eagles found the win column.

Falling in first-round action to eventual tournament champion Steelville, Jacob Walton’s Bland eighth-grade Bears fell 65-16 to the Cardinals.

Later last Tuesday night at Bland Middle School, the host seventh-grade Bears also fell to Cuba 29-7.

Other first-round games saw Bourbon defeat Chamois 28-22 along with Vienna topping Fatima 53-7.

Thursday games saw both Bland teams post victories in their respective consolation semifinal games over Chamois and Fatima.

Steelville and Cuba won their respective semifinals to reach the championship game sending Bourbon and Vienna to the third-place contest.

Consolation action in an all-Bland showdown saw the eighth-grade Bears defeat their seventh-grade counterparts 36-34.

Eighth-grade Bears on the roster include Kaiden Robertson, Gunner Schlottog, Kameron Newton, Samuel Willis, Rance Horstman, Taner Devine, Tayln Litton, Talton Lange, Isiah Sullinger and Cole Loughridge.

Seventh-grade Bears playing for Walton include Logan Stratman, Logan Green, Brayden Cadwallader, Clayton Shockley, Haiden Jones, Baylar Smith, Myles Butler, Aiden Fish and Carter Kinkead.

Team managers are Justice Brown, Jr., and Wyatt Kottwitz.

Cheering on the Bears throughout the fall have included Ryleigh Long, Kayli Lansford, Tayler Bock, Raelyn Walters, Olivia Koch, Mackenzie Garner, Madisun Bailey, Tegan Trainor, Gracie White, Morgan Willis, Adison Seaver, Ella Tipton, Johanna Roberds, Allyson Bartner and Olivia Jones.

Helping Vienna defeat Bourbon 48-28 for third-place Friday night in Bland were Gabe Kleffner, Weston Patton, Cash Stricklan, Nicholas Collins, Gavin Schwartze, Hunter Buschmann, Duncan Wilkinson, Blake Shiver, Alijah Mercer, Samuel Rowden, Dusty Renaud, Garret Jones, Logan Miller and Landon Kloeppel.

Vienna has ended their season while Bland will host Steelville on Monday, Nov. 12 for parent’s night starting at 5:30 p.m., at Bland Middle School.
