A Dixon man was arrested by the Vienna Police Department in an early morning stop last Wednesday that resulted in felony charge for allegedly firing a gun into a Vienna business.

Vienna Police Chief Shannon Thompson reported Marvin L. Elmore, 59, Dixon has been charged with the class B felony of unlawful use of a weapon and the class B misdemeanor of property damage. Elmore was held in the Maries County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 cash or surety bond, and held on a $2,000 bond for possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, and no headlight/taillight violations.

The charges stem from a Jan. 27 incident when Vienna PD investigated a property damage complaint at the Vienna Marine shop located at 202 S. Highway 63 in Vienna. During the investigation it was determined a single gunshot had been fired through the front door of the business at out 6:30 a.m. that morning by someone driving a large, white car. The information was shared with deputies from the Maries County Sheriff’s Office to aid in locating the possible suspect.

On Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 4 a.m. a sheriff’s deputy conducted a stop of a large, white car for an equipment violation. The driver of the car was arrested by the deputy after controlled substances and firearms were located inside the car. The car matched the description of the one suspected to have been used during the shooting and the driver was identified as the possible suspect.

On Monday morning in the Maries County Circuit Court, Elmore told Circuit Judge William Hickle he is trying to secure a lawyer. Prosecuting Attorney Tony Skouby said the state opposes any reduction of bond. Elmore is set to appear in Judge Rowden’s court later this month.
