Elizabeth Jane “Betty” McPherson, 81, of Dixon, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 17, 1943, to Lloyd and Wildreth (Brinkman) Marsden in Jefferson City.
She was united in marriage to Jerry Allen McPherson, July 1, 1963, in Washington D.C.
Elizabeth entered into active federal service in the U.S. Army Feb. 28, 1962, at St. Louis, and served until Aug. 9, 1963, when she was honorably discharged at Arlington Hall Station, Arlington, Va., at the rank of Private First Class.
She was employed by Bank of America, The State Bank of Dixon, and the Dixon Dime Store in the late 80’s. Betty was a member of the Dixon Chamber of Commerce and the Oak Hills Country Club, where she served on the board. Betty served as the first woman Mayor of Dixon from 1991–95 as well as serving as Ward I Council Woman from 1997–99 and 2013–15.
She was preceded in death by husband, Jerry; parents, Lloyd and Wildreth; brother, Richard W. Marsden; and sister, Judy French.
Betty is survived by son, Shayne McPherson and wife Teresa of Waynesville; three granddaughters and two great-grandchildren; and brother, Bud Marsden and wife Grace of state of Texas.
A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday (today), April 3, from 4–7:00 p.m., in the Dixon Elementary School Gym, Dixon.
