Frank Donley “Donnie” James, 86, Hardin, Ill., formerly of Vienna, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at his residence.
He was born June 10, 1934, to Martin “Mart” and Lucy Evaline (McDaniel) James, in Maries County near Vienna.
He was united in marriage to Caroline Marie “Carrie” Volmert, May 2, 1959, at Vienna.
Donnie grew up in Vienna and attended Vienna United Methodist Church. He was a 1951 graduate of Vienna High School, where he played on the basketball team. He was a member of a bowling league. Donnie served in the U.S. Army reaching the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. He was owner and operator of a trucking business for 50 years prior to his 1998 retirement. He continued working as a consultant.
He was preceded in death by parents, Mart and Lucy; wife, Carrie; brothers, Robert M. “Bob” James and wife Irene and James Albert James and wife Elaine and a brother in infancy.
He is survived by daughters, Malissa Stephens and husband Edward of Golden Eagle, Ill., and Holly Teahan and husband Jim of St. Peters; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation and funeral services were held Monday, June 29, in Birmingham-Martin Funeral Hoe, Vienna with Rev. Lynn Quist officiating. Interment with full military honors was in James Community Cemetery, near Vienna. Memorial contributions suggested to the James Community Cemetery Perpetual Fund.
