Gladys Niewald

Gladys Naomi Niewald, 88, Bland, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019, at Capital Region Hospital in Jefferson City.

She was born Feb. 15, 1931, to William and Ida (West) Jost at Oak Hill.

She was united in marriage to Raymond Niewald, July 2, 1949, in Owensville.

Gladys was a member of the First Baptist Church, Eastern Star and The Homebuilders Club of Belle. She worked as a secretary at both Debs Shoe Factory and then International Shoe at Belle. She was also secretary for Standard Oil for many years for her husband, Raymond. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, especially to Branson, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and listening to country music.

She was preceded in death by parents, William and Ida; brothers, Gwynn and Maurice Jost; half-brothers, James and Bransford Jost; and sisters, Pearl and Frieda Souders.

She is survived by husband, Raymond, of the home; daughters, Gail Baumann and husband Mark of Independence and Kris Martin and husband Scott of Kansas City; sisters-in-law, Frances Jost of Owensville and Virginia Niewald of St. Louis; brother-in-law, Ervin Niewald and wife Betty of New Haven; grandchildren, Emily Howell and husband Chad of Blue Springs, Karri Baumann of Independence, Julie Baumann and fiancé Ethan Brauch of Springfield, Douglas Martin and Mallory Martin both of Kansas City; great-grandchildren, Ava, Grace and Lila Howell of Blue Springs; and by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 9, at Gottenstroeter Chapel in Owensville with Rev. Kevin Sullivan officiating. Burial was in Countryside Memorial Gardens.
