Herbert “Herb” J. Detjen, 81, of Bland, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 26, 1941, to John James and Gladys Rose (Huber) Detjen in Alton, Ill.
He attended the St. Joseph in Manchester and the Maplewood Richmond Heights High School. Herb joined the U.S. Army Feb. 3, 1960, at the age of 18, and proudly served his country.
He was united in marriage to Yolanda Ester Rigo in Panama.
Herb worked sheet metal at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis for many years.
He is preceded in death by parents, John and Gladys; wife, Yolanda; brother, John Detjen; and infant granddaughter, Samantha Schulthenrich.
Herb is survived by son, Herbert J. Detjen and wife Mary of St. Charles; daughters, Gladys Buyan and husband Tim of Wentzville and Susan Schultehenrich of St. Charles; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Kenny Detjen and wife Judy of Bland.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, Sept. 22, at Sassmann’s Chapel in Bland, from 2–4 p.m. with military honors and a small service at 4 p.m.
