Herman “Tuck” Edwin Gibson, 87, of St. James, Missouri passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born April 3, 1936, to Herman Oliver and Hazel Mae (Hammack) Gibson at Meramec Springs.

He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Barnes, Nov. 20, 1956.

Tuck served his country in the U.S. Army 1959–61 as a cryptographer. He was called back to serve an additional nine months.

After returning, he married Virginia “Eileen” Watson, July 25, 1963.

Tuck worked for the Missouri Department of Conservation at Meramec Springs.

He was preceded in death by parents, Herman and Hazel; sister, Hazel Gibson; and brothers, James and Charles “Spud” Gibson.

He is survived by wife of 60 years, Eileen of the home; children, James Mason Gibson Carey and wife Sandy of St. Clair Shores, Mich., Jesse Gibson and wife Stacy of St. James, and Frank Gibson of Salem; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Visitation will be held Wednesday (today), Oct. 11, from 12–2 p.m., at the St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary  with funeral services following at 2 p.m. with Pastor Don Carson officiating. Interment will be at the St. James Cemetery with full military honors.
