Hermania Catherine “Mayne” Gilbert, 83, of Holts Summit, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at Valley Park Retirement Center.

She was born Aug. 3, 1940, a daughter to the late Martin and Gertrude (Wekenborg) Renneke in Argyle.

She was united in marriage to Paul Gilbert, Dec. 17, 1966, who preceded her in death Jan. 8, 2022.

Hermania attended grade school at Renneke School in Argyle. She entered into the workforce as a housekeeper and babysitter for the family of Sam B. Cook. She then went on to work for Chesebrough-Pond’s (now Unilever), International Shoe Factory, and American Family Insurance, from where she retired. Hermania enjoyed being outdoors fishing, gardening, and working in her yard and with her flowers. She also enjoyed quilting, putting together puzzles, watching St. Louis Cardinal games, and traveling with her husband. She also dedicated many volunteer hours to the Lion’s Club, where she and her husband were very active. Hermania will be missed immensely by those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by husband of 55 years, Paul; parents, Martin and Gertrude; brother, Leroy Renneke; sister, Viola Renneke; and sister-in-law, Erma Renneke.

She is survived by brothers, Anthony Renneke of Argyle, and Sylvester (Doris) Renneke of Topeka, Kan.; sister, Barbara Renneke of Argyle; nephew, Richard (Angela) Renneke of Los Alamos, N.M.; nieces, Jeanette Renneke of Wichita, Kan., Christina (Jeff) Yeung, and Rebecca Saunder both of Olathe, Kan.; cousins, Jennifer Wood of Holts Summit, and Steve Beavers of Colo.; and special friend, Brandon Hutto of Jacksonville, N.C..

Family and friends will be received Wednesday (today), Jan. 10, from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. A funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Riverview Cemetery.
