VIENNA — The Historical Society of Maries County (HSMC), along with other concerned county residents, is offering a $1,000 reward following the June 16 theft at the Old Jail Museum building in Vienna where historical military memorabilia and weaponry, Indian artifacts and other items were stolen.

The $1,000 reward will be given to the person who provides substantial information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for the theft of artifacts from the Old Jail Museum.

The thief or thieves breached a lock on the door and entered as thieves do under the cover of darkness and stole these items that had been donated by various county citizens in memory of their loved ones.

Following news of the burglary and stealing of the collected historical artifacts, many county residents were upset and asked what they can do to help the historical society.

HSMC President Lisa Jones said she and the HSMC members very much appreciate everyone’s concern and suggested those who want to help can do so by becoming members of the historical society.

The HSMC is hosting a membership drive to raise funds to pay for the cost of a surveillance system.

Membership includes receiving the quarterly newsletter, The Maries Countian.

To join the historical society, send a check for $15 to HSMC, P.O. Box 302, Vienna, MO 65582.
