J. Richard Skouby, 94, died peaceably March 20, 2024, in Jefferson City.

He was born March 30, 1929, to Charles I. and Margaret (Cassel) Skouby near Bland; fourth of seven siblings.

Richard served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. near the end of WWII as a general medical tech and X-ray tech. He was stationed in occupied Japan and then in Germany as part of the support units for the Berlin Airlift.

After returning home, he used the GI Bill to earn his undergraduate and Law degrees from University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. He began his career in St. Louis, at the law firm of Thompson Mitchell. Richard transitioned to work at Mercantile Bank as Secretary and House Council for almost 30 years.

At retirement, he purchased property in Maries County and moved “back home” in 1990.

Richard is survived by wife of 65 years, Ordith nee Harris; children, Margaret, Jacob (Becky), David (Diana) and Daniel (Carol); six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.

A memorial reception will be held for Richard April 12, from 3–6 p.m. at the Vienna United Methodist Church in the fellowship hall. A graveside service will be held April 13, at 11 a.m. at the High Gate Cemetery.
