Jerry L. Shockley, 82, of Belle, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born Jan. 23, 1941, a son to the late John Edward and Veta May (Gibbons) Shockley in Rolla.

He was a longtime area resident. In 1960, Jerry joined the armed forces and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

Jerry was united in marriage to Judith Lange, May 31, 1964, at the First Baptist Church in Belle. They later divorced. Jerry later married Charlotte Mitchell in 1970, at the justice of the peace. They divorced later as well. Both survive of their homes.

Jerry was employed at General Motors in St. Louis for over 50 years, finally retiring in 1991.

Jerry always liked keeping busy and being on the go. He enjoyed working with his flowers, making walking sticks, or tinkering with things and making sure they were just right. He was very generous and would help out others in need and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was younger and as he got older, he enjoyed trips around town and visiting with the locals at Granny’s restaurant in Bland. Most of all, Jerry was a family man and loved time spent with his family. He will be missed greatly by those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by parents, John and Veta; son, Jeffery Shockley; brother, Leonard Shockley; and sister, Verlee Backues.

Jerry is survived by daughter, Sheila Cook of Belle; son, Doug Shockley of St. Peters; grandchildren, Stephanie Scott and Nicholas Stenson; great-grandchildren, Braeden Green and fiancé Olivia Sanders, Triniti Scott, Tatum Scott, and Nihilus White; and sister, Virginia Woolley; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle. Interment was in the Skaggs Chapel Cemetery with full military honors.
