Falling on the road at Cuba in two sets last Thursday, Evin Farris’ Belle Lady Tiger volleyball team got another shot at the Lady Wildcats Monday night in the opening match of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 2, District 8 Volleyball Tournament hosted by Belle High School.

Taking the first set 28-26, Belle appeared positioned to advance to last night’s (Tuesday) semifinals against top-seeded Fatima.

However, Cuba had other ideas winning the next two games taking the match in three sets, 26-28, 25-18 and 25-22.

Farris’ first season at the helm of Belle Lady Tiger volleyball ended with an overall record of 11-15 and a 2-6 mark inside the Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC).

Only graduating one senior in Grace Busch, Farris will return a wealth of varsity experience for next fall’s Belle Lady Tiger volleyball team.

Incoming seniors returning next fall will include Gracie Schultz, Mikal Lough, Kenzi Cetroute and Olivia Sanders.

Returning next year as juniors will be Lauren Prigge, Maddie Rohrer, Emily Helmig and Melissa Brown.

Looking for varsity time next year as sophomores will include Olivia Koch, Madisun Bailey, Molly Busch, Kayli Lansford, Hali Naber, Mackenzie Garner, Tayler Bock, Morgan Willis and Gracie White.

Other first-round matches Monday night at BHS saw the second-seeded Steelville Lady Cardinals defeat the seventh-seed Dixon Lady Bulldogs in two sets by scores of 25-10 and 25-14.

Capping first-round action Monday night in Belle was the third-seeded Linn Wildcats against the sixth-seeded Bourbon Lady Warhawks.

Sweeping Bourbon in two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-17, Linn advanced to last night’s (Tuesday) semifinals against the second-seeded Lady Cardinals.

Sharing the GVC Volleyball title with Steelville, Viburnum ended their season losing in two sets to South Iron during the C1D5 Tournament in Ellington.
