That was one goal for Evin Farris’ Belle Lady Tigers during the Russellville Girls Basketball Tournament last week in Cole County.

Falling 55-52 in first-round action last Tuesday to Tuscumbia, Belle was sent to the consolation semifinals Friday against their Maries County rivals in Vienna’s Lady Eagles.

Turning back Vienna 55-38, Belle earned a shot at consolation hardware Saturday against Versailles’ Lady Tigers.

Taking a 43-34 lead into the fourth quarter, Belle outscored Versailles 24-13 in the final eight minutes to post a 67-47 victory giving them two wins for the week in Russellville.

Named to the All-Tournament Team, junior Halle Smith nearly outscored Versailles by herself pouring in a career-high 46 points hitting 11 two-point field goals and three 3-pointers.

Smith was also 15-17 from the free-throw line against the black and gold Lady Tigers out of Morgan County.

Next in scoring for Belle after smith was Hali Naber with seven points followed by five markers from Faith Geick.

Lauren Prigge hit a third-quarter 3-pointer for three points to go along with two points apiece from Grace Busch, Olivia Sanders and Susie Moman.

In the consolation semifinals, Belle battled Vienna to a 24-20 halftime lead before holding the Lady Eagles to five points in the third quarter.

That gave the Lady Tigers a 41-25 lead after three quarters before Belle went on to a victory in the first of two meetings this season between the two Maries County girl’s basketball teams.

Smith led Belle and all scorers with 25 points. Sanders also reached double figures with 13 points scoring eight in the second half.

Prigge just missed double digits scoring six of her eight points on a pair of 3-point shots in the first quarter.

Busch chipped in six points followed by two from Naber and a first-quarter free throw for one point from Erin Schalk.

Belle will return to action Friday night hosting Viburnum’s Lady Blue Jays in the annual pink out game beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Kamryn Hayes led the Lady Eagles against Belle with a team-high 15 points.

Marsie Messersmith joined Hayes in double figures scoring nine of her 10 points in the first half.

Kadence George added five points to go along with three each from Tara Huffman and Kylie Logan. Autumn Smith rounded out Vienna’s scoring against Belle with two points.

Vienna’s Lady Eagles will return to action tomorrow (Thursday) weather permitting in a Highway 42 showdown at Iberia against the Lady Rangers.
