Leona Mensing

Leona Rose Mensing, 93, Liberty, formerly of Dixon, passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, at her residence.

She was born Dec. 25, 1926, to John Andrew and Leona Mae (Atchinson) Williams, at Kansas City.

She was united in marriage to Roy Mensing, Sept. 14, 1947, at Kansas City.

Leona was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church, Dixon, for over 40 years where she served in numerous positions. She was employed with Civil Service, Fort Leonard Wood, as the Directorate of Military Personnel Trainee/Student Processing Division for 19 years and had served as clerk to the Board of Directors for the Pulaski Water and Supply District  #2 for twenty years. She was a member of the Happy Homemakers Club for over 50 years and a 4-H Leader for 20 years.

She was preceded in death by parents, John and Leona; husband, Roy; brothers, John Andrew Williams Jr. and wife Betty and Rolla Dale Williams; and granddaughter, Leanne Michelle Mensing.

She is survived by children, Joseph Mensing and wife Lavonda of Overland Park, Kan., John Mensing and wife Mary of Sunset, S.C., Roxanna “Roxie” Twaddell and husband Michael of Kansas City, Loretta O’Neal and husband Preston of Dixon and Daniel Mensing of Peculiar; sister, Maxine Friederichs of Kansas City; sister-in-law, Carolyn Williams of Independence, Kan.; and 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 11 from 12-2 p.m. in Birmingham Martin Funeral Home, Dixon, where funeral services will follow with Rev. Arthur Gormley Jr. of New Salem Baptist Church, near Dixon, officiating. Interment will be in Pisgah Cemetery near Dixon. Memorial contributions suggested to Pisgah Baptist Church, Dixon.
