The Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry is asking for assistance from Maries County businesses, churches and individuals for its annual Christmas distribution.
In the past the food pantry has requested the community’s assistance at the holidays and has received a good response.
Board Chairperson Sharon Wulff said the Covid-19 coronavirus has somewhat reduced the numbers of persons the food pantry serves but the numbers are anticipated to increase during the holiday time. For the past 12 months the food pantry has served an average of 115 county families each month, or about 286 people.
The Food Bank in Columbia and Feeding America have continued to provide a good supply of food, but they don’t know how long this will last. With local support, during the past 12 months the food pantry has purchased hamburger or fish for several distributions to county families.
Again this year the food pantry would like to provide a voucher to the Maries County families to go to the store to purchase what they need to help with their holiday meals. There are stipulations with the vouchers as they cannot be used to purchase alcohol, tobacco products, or pet food.
Donations are requested to be received by Nov. 9 in order to determine the value of the vouchers to be given in December to Maries County families in need. Or if groups want to have a food drive, that would be appreciated as well.
Donations can be mailed to Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, Kay Wieberg Treasurer, 32541 MCR 213, Vienna, MO 65582. Persons with questions can contact Wieberg at 422-6243 or Wulff at 422-3679.
The food pantry board and volunteers appreciates the support.
