Health department releases data chart

The Phelps-Maries County Health Department released a chart of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases that included age and gender for people living both counties on Monday to help the community better understand the virus.

“We are seeing an alarming number of cases return to work and/or attend gatherings after being tested while awaiting results,” Phelps-Maries County Health Department officials said in an Aug. 10 release. “If you have been tested for COVID-19, please continue to strictly quarantine at home until you receive notification of the test result.”

Circumstances surrounding the tests, whether a work order or voluntary, are unclear.

“This unnecessarily exposes many others in the workplace and within the community,” department officials said.

The snapshot of COVID-19 testing results includes cases in the Phelps-Maries County Health Department jurisdiction in relation to location and age range.

“As you will see, the majority of the area has been impacted and all age ranges affected.”

The data was listed by age, and not by the order in which the cases were tested.

According to the chart, Belle has six confirmed COVID-19 cases of which all are recovered. Cases are attributed to two males, ages 20 and 69; and four females, ages 15, 34, 54, and 69. The 64-year-old female required hospitalization.

Belle sits squarely in the middle of the number of cases in the two-county area. The chart had six towns with three or fewer cases and four towns between seven and 61 cases. Rolla had the highest number of cases at 61 with 16 active and 45 recovered.

Maries County has had a total of 24 cases out of 615 negative tests, six of which are attractive in the Dixon, Hayden, and Vienna areas. The remaining 18 cases are recovered.

Phelps County has had 98 total cases out of 5,608 negative tests, of which 21 are active and 77 are recovered. The youngest person to contract the virus is a 3-year-old male in the Doolittle, Jerome, Newburg area and the oldest is a 73-year-old male in Rolla.

Neither of the counties have experienced deaths due to the virus.

“This is not data that will routinely be provided, but it is one the health department monitors quite closely,” department officials said.
