Maries R-1 announces bond issue priority improvements

VIENNA — The Maries R-1 School District is asking voters to approve a no tax increase bond issue at the April 7 Municipal Election.

The bond issue does not raise taxes, but does continue the district’s $0.44 debt service levy.

The school district’s administration and school board want to inform voters about the needs and what the additional funding will pay for.

Safety is a high priority and includes safety vestibules at the high school and elementary entrances, upgrading and replacing exterior doors and replacing windows.

A new ADA gym entryway and concession stand will be a big improvement at the gym entrance on the south side of the building. The plan is to re-purpose existing spaces for the band room, weight room and changing areas.

Also planned are parking lot improvements, track improvements and grounds improvements and repairs done within the scope of the budget.

Editor’s Note: Maries County Clerk Rhonda Rogers said she will be sending a petition to the appellate court to get the April 7 Municipal Election postponed until June 2. The Advocate will present more detailed improvement information next week.
