The Maries R-2 School District is up to six missed days this winter season — pushing the end of school from May 8 to May 15, according to Superintendent Dr. Lenice Basham.

“The district has missed six days (five for weather alone one for a water main break),” Basham said via email on Tuesday. “Two of those are covered within the current hour schedule. We will make up the next four at the end of the year.”

Classes were canceled Aug. 23 for a water main break and canceled for weather on Jan. 17 and then all last week — Jan. 21-24 — with more weather days expected in the future.

“We are still early in the winter season - it is anticipated that we could miss additional days due to weather,” Basham said on the Maries County R-2 Schools Facebook page. “The last day of school will be adjusted based on additional missed days.”

The district announces cancellations via their Facebook page with the help of first-year Bland Middle School Principal Denise Baldwin. Baldwin and her famous “school’s out” original videos have now been shared on Y107 and other local news stations.
