Mildred “Millie” Adkins, 79, of O Fallon, passed away on Monday, Aug. 14, 2023.
She was born to Emmett and Lorraine Schafler (nee Riegert) July 4, 1944, in St. Louis.
She united in marriage to Layman Adkins, March 21, 1964, in Union Hill Baptist Church, Vienna.
Millie was a 1962 graduate of Normandy High School. She worked at Famous Barr in St. Louis; served on the Christian Life Committee; volunteered for the American Red Cross disaster relief; was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army; and sold Avon. Millie was a member of the First Baptist Church of O’Fallon for the past 45 years.
She was preceded in death by parents, Emmett and Lorraine; brother, William (Janet) Schafler.
Millie is survived by husband, Layman; daughters, Mary Lorraine Adkins, Beverly Marlene (Peter) Hult, Katherine Jean (Jason) Tharp, and Brenda Kaye (Matthew) Brooks; grandchildren, Alexandria (Julian Calle Cristancho) Hult, Carter Hult, Brooke Tharp, Winter Brooks, and Rayne Brooks; and sister, Jean (Edward) Brennan.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 21, at First Baptist of O’Fallon, O’Fallon. A graveside service was held Tuesday, Aug. 22, at Union Hill Cemetery, Vienna.
