To the Editor:
Thank goodness we live in a country where a peaceful transition of power is our national tradition. The uncertainty we are living through this presidential transition comes from the current method of electing the president. The state-based, winner-take-all method of allocating Electoral College votes divides the nation, repeatedly leads to needless recounts and chaos and involves the courts in a decision that belongs to the voters.
It does not have to be this way. The National Popular Vote bill will guarantee the presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and D.C. With a national popular vote our nation will follow the fundamental principle of democracy – one person, one vote. Our Missouri legislators can pass this bill.
