VIENNA — In his report to the Maries R-1 School Board Monday night, Vienna High School Principal Ian Murray said a list of important dates “have cautiously been set for upcoming events.”

He noted these are tentative dates with events that are pending approval of the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) and the local health department recommendations. Maries R-1 will keep the public informed.

On May 6, all assignments/tests must be turned in by 7 p.m. at the school.

On May 6 and 7, there will be a book return party. Murray asked that all school textbooks, library books, musical instruments and sports uniforms be brought to the school between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Staff will be available to help students and parents who will not get out of their vehicles but will hand over the items to staff there to help them.

Also on May 7 is the Senior Parade for the Vienna High School Class of 2020 members. The parade begins at 7:30 p.m. and will use the same parade route through town as the Maries County Fair Parade. People are asked to cheer on and honk for the seniors as they drive through town.

Summer school is tentatively scheduled to begin on May 19 and run through June 18. The annual Junior/Senior Prom has been rescheduled to June 13 with gym doors open at 7 p.m. and locked for entrance at 7:30 p.m.

The 8th Grade Promotion has been rescheduled to June 18 at 6 p.m. in the gym.

Senior graduation practice is set for June 19 at 9 a.m. The location will be either the upper ball diamond at the Vienna City Park or in Allen Gymnasium at the high school.

Murray said graduation will be held either June 19 or June 20 at 7:30 p.m. either at the park or the gym.

Murray also added some alternative dates if the first dates do not meet CDC and health department guidance.

An alternative summer school session is set for June 1 through June 30 if the May summer school dates are too soon for students to return to campus.

July 11 is an alternative date for prom and July 16 is a later date for 8th Grade Promotion.

July 17 is an alternative date for senior graduation practice at a site to be announced, and July 17 or 18 is a later date for VHS graduation at 7:30 p.m.

Murray said the school will keep students and parents informed.

For the 2020-2021 school year, Murray said class officer elections will take place on the first day of school as well as the National Honor Society Induction ceremony.
