The annual Maries R-1 Elementary Carnival will be held this Friday evening in the school cafeteria from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and will culminate with a staff member getting a pie in the face.
At the Maries R-1 School Board’s November meeting, PTO Carnival Committee Chairperson, Rachel Johnson, gave a brief report to the school board. She said the carnival is the biggest event for the elementary school each year. It is a fundraiser and provides funding for extra things at the school.
New this year is a $15 wrist band, similar to wrist bands purchased at the fair which gives access to all of the rides. A student can buy a wrist band and play games all evening with it.
There will be a basket raffle, a book fair, food to eat, and Santa is scheduled to make an appearance.
Six staff members have volunteered to be part of the pie in the face contest. They are Tyler Karnes, Scott Mayberry, Chandler Harker, Lisa Swindell, Rachel Johnson and Malinda Howard. Students will put money in cans belonging to the teacher they want to see get the pie in the face. The staff member with the most money gets the pie in the face. Students also can buy tickets to be the one who puts the pie in the face.
