R-1 student tests positive for Covid-19

Posted
On Tuesday afternoon, Maries R-1 School Superintendent Mark Parker reported the school district had been notified by the Phelps-Maries Health Department that a high school student has tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus.
The school district has contacted the students, their families, and other staff members who have been in close contact with this individual. Parker said they are working closely with the health department to assist with contact tracing. The school district was advised that a more aggressive reaction to this case is not needed at this time.
The R-1 school district will continue to work closely with local health officials to monitor evolving circumstances and revise operational plans as needed.
In an effort to focus communications going forward, R-1 plans to utilize three forms of communications—the school website, the school’s Facebook account, and E-Notes, which is the school’s text messaging system.
COVID-19 is thought to be spread via person-to-person contact through contaminated air droplets from coughing and sneezing by an infected person. As with controlling the spread of other viruses, the school district urges everyone to take preventative measures and to monitor for symptoms daily.
More information can be found on the district’s website at Mariesr1.k12.mo.us.  Parker said it is truly “a community effort to minimize the spread of the virus and help keep the schools safe, healthy, and open.”
