A volunteer working with the Maries County Sheriff’s Office has tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus.
Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman reported the reserve deputy sheriff worked at the sheriff’s office in Vienna on Saturday, Aug. 22. They believe the sheriff’s office has contacted all of the person who had contact with this person and extra precautions are being taken in the office.
Sheriff Heitman said, “If you came to my office on that day, it is recommended you take the necessary steps to protect yourself and others.”
He said they think the reserve office contracted the virus by attending his church in Jefferson City on the Wednesday prior to reporting for duty in Maries County. The reserve officer did not show symptoms of the virus until after his shift. He has had mild symptoms and appears to be recovering.
