The Vienna Fire Protection District reported it was dispatched to a residential structure fire on MCR 332 north of Vienna. The department was en route within one minute and upon arrival at the fire scene firefighters found a heavy fire showing from the structure. The firefighters began an immediate fire attack and had the fire contained within 35 minutes. The department responded with two engines, two tankers and were assisted with apparatus from Argyle Fire, Freeburg Fire, Maries County Sheriff’s Office, and Maries-Osage Ambulance District. Fire Chief Mike Smith thanked all of the firefighters for their hard work at the fire and all the responders for their teamwork.
Chief Smith said the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.
On her Facebook page, Desiree Shockley said they are thankful no one was hurt and “we are pressing on.” She thanked the Vienna Fire Department for putting out the fire and keeping the family safe. She also thanked the first responders who helped and to all who donated food, drinks and clothes, saying they are very grateful.
A donation account to benefit the Joe and Desiree Shockley family has been established at the Maries County Bank. Also, a daughter, Bailey McCully, has established a gofundme page on Facebook where monetary donations can be made. As of Monday, over $1,000 had been donated.
On her Facebook page, McCully said, “They have no home, no clothing, and none of the necessary things that are needed to live comfortably and healthy.” She said the donations would be used for cleanup costs, a new home and other necessities the family needs. All donations of any kind will go straight to the family.
