Steak night fundraiser nears $7K

Posted

The Maries County community came out strong last Saturday night in support of the Vienna Senior Center at the annual steak night fundraiser at the Vienna Eagles Club.

Senior Center Board Vice President, Peggy Rowden, said the evening profited $6,900.33, which she was told is about $2,000 more than last year’s steak night fundraiser. Much of the profit came from the auction itself, which had 60 very good items for sale and brought in $5,815. Valerie Haller’s coconut cream pie brought more than any other pie as it sold for $350. Paula Fannon-Meyer’s three beautiful pies with three inch high meringue brought in a total of $450. There were many generous donations for the auction, Rowden said.

People came out to enjoy a fine Eagles Club dinner and the volunteers were busy in the kitchen. Tips collected and donated to the senior center totaled $410.33 and Rowden said they received $390 in other donations. Buddemeyer Farms won the 50-50 raffle which brought in $285.

Rowden said they are thankful for all of the support that is needed to keep the senior center open and thriving for the county’s senior citizens to enjoy fellowship and a good, nutritious meal. Many homebound seniors also are served as well.
