Taking it to the House

The Senate wrapped up the week (before Easter) by sending several proposals to the House of Representatives for consideration.

One of these was my Senate Bill 912, which was inspired by a veteran in our community, and was third read and passed on March 26. In addition to simplifying the process for our military personnel to apply for a disabled placard, special designation on their driver’s license or personalized military license plates, the bill will strengthen statewide veteran suicide prevention efforts, help connect service men and women to benefits and designate the Staff Sgt. Paul Hasenbeck Memorial Highway in Osage County.

I look forward to taking SB 912 to the House and eventually, to the governor’s desk.

Another bill of mine, which would permit home school students to participate in sports and extra-curricular activities in their corresponding public school district, moved closer to the goal line when it advanced out of the Select Committee on Empowering Missouri Parents and Children Committee on March 26.

The goal of this legislation is to ensure all Missouri children get to enjoy and benefit from the enrichment of sports and other school-based programs their parents’ taxes helped fund. Senate Bill 819 is similar to a bill I carried last session that passed the Senate and was on the calendar to be third read and passed in the House. I am hopeful it makes it all the way this year.

As always, it’s a tremendous honor to serve those who call the 26th Senatorial District home. If you need assistance with navigating state government or the legislative process, please reach out by calling 573-751-3678 or emailing Ben.Brown@senate.mo.gov.
