Tiger nine run win streak to seven

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Bryce Gehlert’s Belle Tigers should continue to live by that old expression.

Winners of their last six games, Gehlert’s Tigers looked to make it seven in a row Monday night on the road in California against the Pintos.

Tied at 1-1 after five innings, Belle plated five runs in the top of the sixth inning helping to extend their win streak to seven games after a 6-1 victory in Moniteau County.

Belle broke the scoreless tie in the top of the first inning when Blake Henry walked with one out before advancing to third base on a Hank Stratman double.

Tiger starting pitcher Clayton Shockley helped his own cause with a RBI sacrifice fly to give Belle an early 1-0 lead.

Pitching around a pair of hit batters and a walk, Shockley kept the Pintos off the scoreboard for four innings while also holding them hitless.

Thanks to three errors and a ground out, Shockley lost his bid for a shutout but not for a no-hitter.

Now tied at 1-1 after five innings, Belle looked for an answer in the top half of the sixth inning.

Hunter Wulff and Ruger Schlottog walked to start the frame.

Wulff then scored on an error giving Belle their one-run lead back.

Garrett Gehlert started a two-out rally being hit by a pitch before a Henry RBI single doubled Belle’s lead to two at 3-1.

A Stratman two-RBI single and a Shockley RBI double capped Belle’s five-run top of the sixth inning giving them their final margin of victory.

Shockley earned the complete-game win allowing an unearned run on no hits and two walks to go with 10 strikeouts.

Stratman had a team-leading three hits and two RBIs for the Tigers while Shockley helped his own cause at the plate with two hits and two runs driven in.

Showing patience at the plate, Schlottog and Wulff both drew a pair of walks for Belle.

Saturday in Rich Fountain against the Missouri Military Academy (MMA) Colonels, Belle broke open a 2-0 game after one inning with five runs in the second and six runs in the third inning of their 15-0 victory in four innings.

Cooper Durbin and Shockley each drove in a team-high three runs for the Tigers while Gehlert walked three times and scored three runs from the top spot in the lineup.

Hosting Bourbon last Friday in the Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) baseball opener, Belle got a third-inning RBI double from Shockley and a two-run home run from Stratman in the fifth inning of their 3-0 shutout victory over the visiting Warhawks.

Nearly teaming up for a combined no-hitter, Shockley went three and a third innings allowing no runs and no hits to go with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Henry pitched the rest of the way allowing no runs on just one hit to go with 11 strikeouts.

Hosting Plato last night (Tuesday), Belle will spend the weekend at the Linn Baseball Tournament facing Dixon’s Bulldogs at 9 a.m., Friday morning and Hermann’s Bearcats that afternoon at 2 p.m., before playing Saturday for either consolation, third place or the championship at Linn.

All three of their games will be at the Linn High School Athletic Complex.
