Escaping the first half with a 25-23 lead, Belle survived every Warrior run in the second half to complete the doubleheader sweep in St. Robert with a 53-48 victory in Pulaski County.

“It was a hard-fought game all the way,” Evans said. “I’m proud of the guys for hanging in there and getting the job done for our first win of the season.”

Brett Stewart nailed five 3-pointers helping score a game-high 22 points for the Tigers. He also added four rebounds and three steals.

Jat Ridenhour also reached double digits in scoring while flirting with a triple double.

In addition to his 12 points, Ridenhour pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with six steals and three blocked shots.

Eddy Paz just missed double digits in scoring with eight points, five rebounds and two steals.

Lane Feeler added seven points and three rebounds.

Jace Gieck added two points and three rebounds in addition to two points and two steals from Colten Robinson.

Tony Daughtery led Maranatha Baptist with a team-high 20 points.

JV Tigers at Maranatha Baptist

Swept in their season opener at New Haven prior to Thanksgiving, Belle Tiger basketball teams coached by Tim Evans and Jacob Walton looked to put their first notch in the win column Thursday night on the road at Maranatha Baptist in St. Robert.

Seeing both Belle junior varsity and varsity squads break 50 points, the Tigers came away with wins over the warriors in both games.

Leading 28-7 at halftime in the JV contest, Belle’s JV Tigers pitched a second-half shutout going on to a 51-7 win over the host Warriors.

Outscoring the Warriors in every quarter except for the second, Evans’ varsity Tigers held off a game Warrior team, 53-48.

Belle’s JV Tigers were led by Thomas Lingo with a game-high 16 points followed closely by his brother Thomas with 12 points, five steals and two rebounds.

Kyle Thullen chipped in seven points, two rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots for Walton’s JV Tigers.

Levi Hinz chipped in four points while pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds. Will Doss also had four points and six rebounds in the Belle victory.

Cole Loughridge and Shane Baumgartner each scored two points in the win.
