A traffic stop on Hwy. 63 in Westphalia at about 4:15 p.m. Sunday for speeding ended with the arrest of Tyler E. Maggard, 26, and Kole D. Kleffner, 25, both of Vienna, who have been charged with delivery of a controlled substance after 26.3 grams of meth were discovered in the vehicle.

According to court documents filed by Deputy Matthew Cowan, neither the driver, Maggard, nor passenger, Kleffner, claimed ownership of the vehicle, saying it belonged to Kleffner’s mother.

At this time, Cowan said he suspected criminal activity, and was concerned about the extreme anxiety both displayed when he first made contact. Additionally, Kleffner appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic, Cowan said in his probable cause statement.

Neither provided consent to search the vehicle, and K-9 Zed conducted a free-air search, during which the dog alerted to the presence of narcotics. A probable-cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a large bag containing a substance that field-tested positive for meth weighing 13.9 grams, and loaded syringes, which also field-tested positive for meth weighing 12.4 grams.

Additionally, an electronic scale and small baggies were found.

Bond was set at $10,000 for each defendant.
