Two rainfall records were set in Maries County last week on Saturday and Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service Forecast Office’s Daily Climate Report (DCR), rainfall total daily records were set from data recorded at the Rolla National Airport at Vichy.

On Thursday, Jan. 9 rainfall recorded at the airport totaled 0.48 inches. This is not a record as that was set in 1974 when rainfall totaled 0.61 inches.

However, records were set on both Friday and Saturday. On Jan. 10, rainfall of 1.95 inches was recorded. This surpassed the previous record of 1.89 set in 1950. On Jan. 11, rainfall of 0.78 inches was recorded, beating a record set the previous year, in 2019, of 0.49 inches. Added together, these daily rainfall numbers add to 3.21 inches, which is the total amount of rainfall recorded at the airport at Vichy during January.

Friday, Jan. 11 was an odd weather day with a high temperature recorded at 12:19 p.m. of a balmy 64 degrees. This was one degree away from the record high for the day set in 2017 when the temperature set a record at 65 degrees.
