Velma Jean Creek, 90, Owensville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019, at Frene Valley-Stonebridge of Owensville.

She was born April 20, 1929, to Alton and Tillie (Wiese) Hibler, in Owensville.

She was united in marriage to Russell Eugene Creek, Nov. 1, 1947, in Owensville.

Velma Jean was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Owensville where she belonged to the Dorcas and the Quilters. After she retired from Brown Shoe Co., she worked for the Gasconade County Republican for 20 years. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking and especially making apple butter.

She was preceded in death by parents, Alton and Tillie; husband, Russell; sisters, Olene Idel, Helen Hibler and Erma Lay; and brothers, Melvin and Stanwood Hibler.

She is survived by children, Jerry Creek and wife Rita of Bland and Linda Creek of Jefferson City; brother, Harold Hibler and wife Lucille of Owensville; grandchildren, Ashley Miller and husband Andrew, Lindsey and Matthew Creek; and great-granddaughter, Scarlett Creek Miller.

Visitation was Tuesday, Dec. 31, from 9-11 a.m. at Gottenstroeter Chapel, Owensville, where funeral services followed with Pastor David Roth officiating. Burial was in Countryside Memorial Gardens. Memorials requested to Alzheimer’s Association.
