Three nights removed from a 56-40 home victory over Crocker last Tuesday, Greg Koetting’s Vienna Eagles welcomed Bourbon’s Warhawks to Vienna High School for senior night.

In what would be the final home game for Tyler Collins, the Eagle senior was recognized for his four years of hard work and dedication to the VHS Eagle basketball program.

Scoring four of his eight points in the fourth quarter, Collins helped his Eagle teammates hold on for a 67-63 Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) victory over the visiting Warhawks out of Crawford County.

Edging Bourbon 19-16 after eight minutes of basketball, Bayrd VanScoy led five Eagle scorers in the first quarter with nine points.

Layne Hogshooter added four points in addition to two points each from the Vienna trio of Trey Snodgrass, Daniel Casey and Collins.

Bourbon returned the favor in the second quarter outscoring Vienna 17-14 creating a 33-33 halftime tie.

Held to three two-point field goals, the Eagles helped themselves from the free-throw line hitting eight of 10 shots from there.

VanScoy led the Eagles and all first-half scorers with 19 points.

Snodgrass, Collins and Hogshooter each added four points in addition to Daniel Casey’s two first-quarter points.

Recently becoming Bourbon’s all-time leading scorers in boy’s basketball, Aaron Farris paced the Warhawks with 10 first-half points.

In an interesting fact, Aaron is the younger brother of current Belle Lady Tiger head basketball and volleyball coach Evin Farris.

Seeing both teams combine for 30 points in the third quarter, Vienna entered the final eight minutes of senior-night basketball with a 51-45 lead.

Spencer Magner picked up the scoring slack opening the second half with 11 of Vienna’s 18 third-quarter points.

Continuing his hot shooting in the second half, Spencer Magner scored seven of Vienna’s 16 fourth-quarter points helping the Eagles hold for a GVC victory on senior night.

In spite of being limited to two second-half points, VanScoy led Vienna and all scorers with a game-high 21 points.

Doing all of his damage in the second half, Spencer Magner finished with 18 points.

Collins, Hogshooter and Snodgrass each scored eight points showing that number was enough.

Daniel Casey rounded out Vienna’s scoring against Bourbon with four points.

Eric Sansouci led the Warhawks with 17 points in a losing cause.

Farris added 15 points in addition to 14 points for Ryan Fetters.

Marten Mathews made it four Warhawks in double figures scoring 10 points.

Kicking off the Valentine’s Day basketball doubleheader Friday night was Chandler Harker’s Vienna JV Eagles against the visiting Bourbon JV Warhawks.

Nursing a 40-38 lead going into the fourth quarter, Vienna outscored Bourbon 16-11 in the final eight minutes to post a 56-49 victory.

Taking an 18-12 lead after one quarter, Vienna’s Nicholas Collins led the JV Eagles with seven points in the first seven minutes.

Edging Bourbon 11-10 in the second quarter, Vienna took a 29-22 halftime lead over the Warhawks.

Lucas Magner and Nicholas Collins each led the JV Eagles with 10 first-half points.

Outscored 16-11 to open the second half, Vienna saw their lead cut to two points after three quarters.

Josh Casey and Max Steffen each scored eight points in the fourth quarter helping the JV Eagles to a seven-point victory.
