One thing was for certain upon the conclusion of Friday’s seventh-place game at the 81st Tipton Girls Basketball Tournament.

Either Jason Kampeter’s Vienna Lady Eagles or the Jamestown Lady Eagles would put their first notch in the win column.

Leading 17-7 after one quarter, Vienna continued adding to their lead against Jamestown in Tipton before going on to a 56-40 victory in a battle of Lady Eagle teams.

Kadence George paced VHS with seven first-quarter points followed closely with six markers from Jena Schwartze in the first eight minutes of seventh-place basketball from Tipton.

Edging Jamestown 10-7 in the second quarter, Vienna went into halftime with a 27-14 lead over their Lady Eagle foes.

George paced VHS with nine first-half points in addition to eight from Schwartze.

Firing in 21 points in the third quarter, Vienna got 10 of those from George helping them to a 48-22 lead with eight minutes standing between VHS and their first notch in the win column.

In spite of Jamestown scoring 18 fourth-quarter points, Vienna held on to take seventh place in the Tipton Tournament.

George led Vienna and all scorers with a game-high 19 points. Schwartze joined her in double figures for VHS with 18 points.

Kamryn Hayes added seven points in addition to six markers from Autumn Smith.

Terra Huffman kicked in four points while a Jada Kleffner bucket in the first quarter for two points rounded out Vienna’s scoring against Jamestown.

Averaging 13 points a game in Tipton, George was one of 10 players selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Hayes was also selected to receive a Sportsmanship Award at Tipton.

Taking on eighth-seeded La Monte in the consolation semifinals last Wednesday, Vienna looked to bounce back from a first-round loss at the hands of Chamois.

Leading 15-8 after one quarter, Vienna saw the Lady Vikings outscore them 21-7 in the second quarter resulting in a 29-22 halftime deficit for the Lady Eagles.

Playing to a 14-14 tie in the second half, Vienna could not muster enough offense before falling 43-36 to La Monte.

Scoring 11 first-half points, Hayes paced Vienna against the Lady Vikings with a team-high 13 points. Schwartze added all eight of her points in the first half.

George scored six points followed closely with five from Huffman.

Tori Schulte’s four points in the fourth quarter capped the Vienna scoring against La Monte.
