By the time the championship game had finally concluded after around 10:30 p.m., Saturday night, nearly 12 hours of baseball had been played Saturday in the Vienna Fall Baseball Classic at Vienna City Park.

Vienna’s final game of the tournament Saturday was in the third-place contest against Belle’s Tigers.

Putting six runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning, Vienna had all the offense they would need before going on to claim the third-place plaque with a 9-5 victory over their county rivals.

“This was a nice win to cap our home tournament,” Vienna head baseball coach Cory Nicholson said. “We had a tough loss against Linn in our previous game. I’m proud of how our guys came back in the very next game to get a win.”

Belle was able to get on the board first against Vienna in the top half of the first inning.

Kaiden Robertson led off with a single before being thrown out at home on a fielder’s choice later in the inning.

Lane Feeler also singled and had the same thing happen to him as Robertson.

Batting from the third spot in the lineup, Carter Kinkead singled and scored on a two-RBI single from Jace Gieck that also drove in Jeb Seaver for a 2-0 Belle lead.

That lead was short lived as Vienna answered with two runs and then some in the bottom half of the first.

Bayrd VanScoy reached on a fielder’s choice before scoring on an error to get the Eagles on the board.

Alijah Mercer then doubled and scored on a balk to tie the game at 2-2 before Landon Kloeppel reached on an error and scored on another giving Vienna the lead by a score of 3-2.

Vienna was not finished in the inning when Owen Kloeppel walked and scored on a Colin John RBI single.

Cash Stricklan and Lucas Magner also crossed the plate during Vienna’s six-run bottom of the first inning.

Following a scoreless second inning, the Eagles added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning.

John and Magner both walked and scored before VanScoy singled and scored on a Stricklan RBI single bumping Vienna’s lead to 9-3 after three innings.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Belle was able to cut into Vienna’s lead in the top of the fifth inning.

Sam Willis walked with one out before scoring on a balk giving the Tigers their third run of the game.

Feeler then drew a two-out walk taking second and third on a pair of balks. He eventually scored on a Carter Kinkead RBI single cutting Vienna’s lead to 9-4.

Holding the Eagles scoreless in the bottom of the fifth inning, Belle got another chance in the top of the sixth inning to add to their run total.

Adding to his two-RBI single in the first inning, Gieck doubled and scored on a Dalton McDaniel RBI ground out giving Belle their fifth and final run of the game.

Earlier in the day, both county teams had their shots to face each other in the championship game instead of the third-place contest.

Saturday’s first game in Vienna pitted Belle against top-seeded Iberia.

Piling up an 8-3 lead after three innings, Belle could only manage one more run in the ninth before falling to the Rangers 10-9 in ten innings.

Robertson led Belle with four hits, two runs scored and an RBI followed by three hits each from Feeler and Gieck.

Clayton Shockley and Carter Kinkead also had two hits each.

Vienna also had an extra-inning affair not go their way falling 5-2 to eventual tournament champion Linn who defeated Iberia 23-4.

VansCoy and Owen Kloeppel each scored a run in the loss for Vienna against Linn.
