Vienna falls to Chamois at Tipton

Opening their season a week ago, Vienna Lady Eagle basketball came up on the short end of a 53-33 final score against Chamois’ Lady Pirates.

Monday night in opening-round action at the 81st Tipton Girls Basketball Tournament, Jason Kampeter’s Lady Eagles got a second shot at the Lady Pirates.

Trailing 11-4 after one quarter, Vienna could not get any closer before being doubled up 48-24 by fourth-seeded Chamois.

In that aforementioned first quarter, the Lady Eagles got two points each from Kamryn Hayes and Jena Schwartze.

Outscored 12-6 in the second quarter left trailing 23-10 at halftime, Vienna got four points from Kadence George and two more from Hayes.

Edged 10-7 in the third quarter, George (5) and Hayes (2) accounted for the Lady Eagle scoring to open the second half.

Duplicating those numbers in the fourth quarter, George finished with a team-high 14 points for Vienna followed by eight from Hayes.

Alexis Slusser led Chamois and all scorers with a game-high 15 points.

Kampeter’s Lady Eagles will once again look for their first notch in the win column tonight (Wednesday) in the consolation semifinals of the Tipton Tournament facing La Monte at 4:30 p.m. Smithton and Jamestown will meet in the other consolation semifinal at 9 p.m.

Winners of those two games will face off on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m., with consolation championship hardware on the line.

Losers of the two consolation semifinals will battle for seventh place also on Friday, Dec. 6 at 4:30 p.m., in Tipton.

On the championship side of the bracket tonight (Wednesday), top-seeded and host Tipton will face Chamois at 7:30 p.m., preceded by third-seeded New Bloomfield and second-seeded Russellville at 6 p.m.

Once action concludes later this week in Tipton, Vienna’s Lady Eagles will finally get a couple of chances next week to play in front of their home fans.

Monday, Dec. 9 will see VHS get another crack at an Osage County team when Linn’s Lady Wildcats visit the Eagles nest for a 6 p.m., tip off.

Later in the week, Laquey’s Lady Hornets will venture north into Maries County to take on the Lady Eagles on Friday, Dec. 12 also with a 6 p.m., start time for the junior varsity girls contest.

Joining George, Schwartze and Hayes on the Vienna Lady Eagle Basketball roster this season are Jada Kleffner, Autumn Smith, Terra Huffman, Kierra Hollis and Olivia Hagan.
