Vienna sweeps pair of jamboree scrimmages

Last Tuesday, Mick Byrd’s Vienna softball Eagles finally got to face an opponent other than themselves.

Making the trek to Linn High School, Vienna took on the host Lady Wildcats and Belle’s Lady Tigers in a pair of four-inning softball scrimmages.

In the first game between both Maries County schools, Vienna defeated Belle 3-0.

Sophomore Abrea Simmons and freshman Eva Hollis combined to shut out the Lady Tigers.

Simmons pitched three innings giving up two hits and a walk while striking out two. Hollis threw the other inning allowing no hits or walks.

Jaelee Stricklan recorded a hit and a stolen base while the trio of Sadie Novak, Tori Schulte and Simmons all got a hit and drove in a run.

Also recording hits against Belle were Jenna Wiles, Kiera Hollis and Olivia Hagan. Eva Hollis also stole a base while Cara Petershagen scored a run.

Against Linn, Alicia Long threw all four innings giving up just one earned run on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

Helping Vienna to a 6-1 victory over the host Lady Wildcats were Gabby Wilkinson with two hits and two stolen bases.

Karissa Feeler also had a double and a run batted in. Kadence George added a hit and two stolen bases.

Marsie Messersmith contributed a hit and a stolen base.

Jada Kleffner added a hit in addition to a RBI from Kayla Hertzing.

Alexi Struemph also scored a run for Vienna against Linn.

Vienna’s next action will be Tuesday, Sept. 8 on the road in Russellville as a schedule Monday home game against Linn and road game last night (Tuesday) in St. James were rained out.
