Getting an extended holiday break thanks to winter weather hitting the area the week before Christmas, Jason Kampeter’s Vienna Lady Eagle basketball team opened the 2020 portion of the schedule Monday night hosting Russellville’s Lady Indians.

Preceding varsity action, a two-quarter junior varsity contest was played.

Doubling up the visiting JV Lady Indians 8-4 after seven minutes of basketball, Vienna edged Russellville 8-7 in the final quarter to post a 16-11 victory.

Terra Huffman led the JV Lady Eagles with seven points including a pair of 3-point shots and a free throw.

Kyliegh Logan added six points while Tori Schulte hit a first-quarter 3-pointer for three points rounding out the Vienna scoring against Russellville.

Varsity action saw the host Lady Eagles drop a 55-26 decision to the visiting Lady Indians from Cole County.

No further information was available from the varsity game as of press time.

Vienna’s Lady Eagles will return to action later this week at the Calvary Lutheran Girls Basketball Tournament in Jefferson City.

First-round action for the Lady Eagles will be Friday, Jan. 10 at 4:30 p.m., against the St. Louis Lady Knights at Trinity Lutheran School.

A win Friday will have them playing at Calvary Lutheran Saturday while a loss would send them to Blair Oaks.
