Opening their summer softball season last Tuesday night, Vienna’s Warthogs welcomed Linn’s Lady Wildcats to Vienna City Park.
Jumping out to a 3-0 lead after one inning, Vienna put the game away with a four-run sixth inning going on to an 8-0 victory in varsity action.
In addition to the aforementioned inning, Vienna added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to add to their margin of victory.
Alicia Long and Marsie Messersmith combined to pitch the shutout against Linn. Long went four innings allowing no runs on two hits and a walk in addition to one strikeout.
Messersmith pitched the final three innings allowing no runs and no walks on a hit to go with six strikeouts.
Jada Kleffner and Long each had two hits and a run batted in (RBI) to go along with a pair of stolen bases for Kleffner.
Jenna Wiles also added a hit and a RBI.
Andrea Novak and Karissa Feeler each stole a pair of bases along with combining to score three runs.
Molly Otto stole a base and scored two runs in addition to Tori Schulte stealing a base and scoring a run.
Sadie Novak scored a run while Gabby Wilkinson added a stolen base.
Junior varsity action saw a dramatic rally by the Warthogs in the bottom of the last inning.
Down 6-5, their rally started with Eva Hollis being hit by a pitch followed by a Kyleigh Logan walk moving her to second base.
Abrea Simmons singled to load the bases bring Sadie Novak to the plate.
Sadie then delivered a walk-off two-RBI double giving the Vienna JV Warthogs a 7-6 victory.
Simmons had two hits and a RBI while Sadie Novak added a double and two RBIs.
Eva Hollis and Kiera Hollis each had a hit and a stolen base.
Andrea Novak added a hit and a RBI while Emily Thompson added a hit for the JV Warthogs.
Jaelee Strickland and Kyleigh Logan each stole a base.
Nora Garro, Rhea Helton and Madeleine Novak each drove in a run.
Alayna Patton, Karleigh Briscoe and Olivia Hagan each scored a run in the JV Warthog come-from-behind victory against Linn.
Simmons and Eva Hollis combined to do the pitching. Simmons pitched three innings giving up four hits and a walk to go with seven strikeouts. Eva threw two innings allowing a pair of hits and a walk in addition to one strikeout.
