William Schluemer

William Edward Schluemer, 88, Belle, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020.

He was born Oct. 30, 1931, to the late William H. Schluemer and Alma P. (Brandt) Schluemer, in St. Louis.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Hinck) Schluemer, Dec. 27, 1957.

Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He graduated from the Missouri School of Mines (now MS&T) in 1958. He worked for McDonnell-Douglas for 37 years and six months at Boeing, retiring in December of 1997. Bill worked on the design of the F-4, F-15 and the F-18. In 1967 he was loaned to the Navy for six months. From Subic Bay in the Philippines he went to aircraft carriers to assess damage to their airplanes. From January 1985 through October 1986 he worked near Madrid, Spain, with a number of other McDonnell-Douglas employees on the F-18E being built by Spain.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Schluemer.

Bill will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes: his wife, Elizabeth (Hinck) Schluemer; two daughters, Barbara Tubbs and husband Chris and Marilyn Dyer and husband Michael; a son, Richard Schluemer; six grandchildren, Daniel Dyer, Constance Kohner and husband Steve, Vincent Dyer and wife Elisha, Samuel Dyer and wife Elizabeth, Derrick Tubbs and Kaitlin Dyer; and three sisters-in-law, Sharon Schluemer, Carole Lehr and Martha Hinck.

A visitation for William Schluemer will be held from 5-7 p.m. (today) Wednesday, March 18, at the Null and Son Funeral Home, 1010 Kingshighway in Rolla. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, March 20, at the Collier’s Funeral Home, 3400 Lindbergh Blvd. in St. Ann. Interment will follow in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 3-7 p.m., Thursday, March 19, at the Collier’s Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hope Lutheran Church in Rolla or the Zion Lutheran Church in Ferguson.
