Ending pool play Friday with a 5-2 win over Bourbon Friday night at the Stoutland Fall Classic Baseball Tournament, Dakota Mason’s Vienna Eagles advanced to third-place game Saturday afternoon in Stoutland against Plato’s Eagles.

Striking first with three runs in the top of the first inning against Plato, Vienna saw their Eagle opponents put up six runs in the bottom half of the first.

Unable to score again until the top of the fifth inning, Vienna settled for fourth place at Stoutland following a 9-5 loss to Plato.

Duncan Wilkinson led the game off against Plato with a single before scoring on a Fielder’s Choice RBI off the bat of Troy Wulff getting Vienna on the board.

Gavin Schwartze scored Vienna’ second run of the top of the first inning when he walked and crossed the plate on an Eli Hayes RBI ground out.

Wulff later scored on a Raymond Logan RBI single giving Vienna in early 3-0 lead.

Plato was able to answer Vienna’s three runs and then some in the bottom of the first.

Three hits, two walks, and two hit batters led to six runs crossing the plate for Plato leaving Vienna trailing 6-3.

Zach Via walked in the top of the second inning only to be retired as part of an inning-ending double play.

In relief of Hayes, Waylon Lenning pitched around a walk and a hit batter before picking off a Plato runner to end the bottom of the second inning keeping Vienna’s deficit at 6-3.

Wulff was hit by a pitch with one out in the top of the third inning before being left stranded on the base paths.

Lenning pitched around a leadoff walk retiring Plato’s next three batters in the bottom of the third inning keeping Texas County’s Eagles run total at six through three frames.

After a scoreless top of the fourth inning for Vienna, Plato added three runs on three hits and a walk in the bottom of the fourth inning helping them to a 9-3 lead after four.

Reaching on an error with one out in the top of the fifth inning, Wilkinson scored on a Gavin Schwartze RBI double cutting Plato’s lead to 9-4.

Wulff then traded places with Schwartze on a RBI double of his own pulling Maries County’s Eagles to within four at 9-5 after five innings.

Both teams did not score throughout the remainder of the game which ended in six innings due to the tournament time-limit rule.

Opening pool play Friday in Stoutland with an 11-0 loss to Belle in five innings, Vienna looked to split Friday action with a win over Bourbon’s Warhawks.

Tied at 2-2 after five innings, Vienna plated three runs in the top of the seventh inning helping them to a 5-2 victory over the Warhawks in their pool-play finale at Stoutland.

Leaving the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, Vienna saw Bourbon capitalize in the bottom half of the first with a hit and two errors leading to one run.

Trailing 1-0 after one inning, Vienna sophomore starting pitcher Reid Nichols kept Bourbon off the board over the next three innings.

A two-out rally in the top of the fifth inning led to a pair of runs helping the Eagles take a 2-1 lead over the Warhawks.

Wulff started the rally being hit by a pitch before stealing second base.

Hayes then drove Wulff in with a RBI single tying the game at 1-1.

Gavin Schwartze kept the rally going by reaching on an error which allowed Hayes to score and give the Eagles their first lead of the game at 2-1.

Three Warhwaks hits in the bottom of the fifth helped Bourbon tie the game at 2-2 after five innings.

Wulff reached on an error before scoring on a Hayes RBI single in the top of the seventh inning pushing Vienna in front 3-2.

After Hayes scored on a wild pitch, Gavin Schwartze walked and scored on a Hunter Schwartze RBI single helping the Eagles to their final margin of victory.
